THE SEKITSCH CENSUS OF 1891
by Johann Jauss

As the year change from 1890 to 1891 a census was ordered in Sekitsch. With the feasibility Johann Jauss was commissioned. Johann Jauss was employed there himself with ancestor research and as he was very connected to Sekitsch, he realized the importance of it very quickly and slaved for a few days on this unique work. In his foreword he described the importance and the sequence.

Preliminary notes of the author

The general national census ordered with the 9th law article of the year 1890 was, carried out in Szeghegy from January 2nd to 7th, 1891; under mentioned fungirten as count agents: 1. of the Author Johann Jauß. 2nd Karl Burg teacher, 3 Karl Brenner teacher, 4th Gustav Horngansky curate, 5th Moritz Friedmann pharmacist, and of official channelses the same sent 6th Benedikt Engelberger sub-notary and 7th Daniel Weinrich notary under his name the veterinarian Gustav Wagner without payment since the the latter, however, regarded this work as too arduous.
The commendable . Komitats authority had together 50 Fls for the five count agents mentioned first per 10 Fls. this this Antheile renounced, got alone these 10 Fls so on these when fee instructed from the municipal treasury, since I, however, abstained from the 10 Fls being allotted to me in favor of the other four count agents everyone but again in favor of castle. therefore 20 Fls.
I included cold in the company of the juror Jakob at 13 Speziel teaches, the residents the local Szallasen on the spot; everybody was the other count agents a younger member of the Ortsausschuses added. Today's Zählungsaperad would have been supposed to be taken on ten January 10th already, however, it still was taken by the chair judge Mezei on ten January 15th after the same thorough one has carried out samples.
This national census has not the slightest provable use for the municipalities since these will manufacture Counts immediately as the same ready, through the chair judicial office taken, the Komitate, from there but this country statistical Bürau are delivered where this one this Counts then rakes and bad and processed faultily us itself experiences, this created from the earlier national censuses the great, useful and instructive material, u.so, for the municipality which one containedly even in these Counts is is lost, lost completely erichten to copy the decision, this National census at least into his main position fast in me before it is handed in, and then at at given time, the same organize and pass into fair copy completely. The Ergebniß in large trains, put in tabular form, statistically together, show it to the presence and it keep for the posterity at the end; this one is after many, many years because 1891 summarized here can him and be autentischen national censuses compared late if, keep one and have actual value national census the same with other. I am pleased to appreciate it this here all count helps have most willingly accepted my idea, and divergent or supplementarily of the count stipulated by the Staate also this considered, which all single and absent family members taken separately got and was able so, all single and absent family members to her parents, or where such doesn't type in availably to her most closely-related ones to be able. I am a Teacher Michael Klein to gratitude verpfichtet that he helped me to copy day and night since also sir would not handle, have alone this gigantic job been able to do me short time stipulated in this one well.
I very briefly noticed the national census concerning following myself: Muste is, for male a white, for female a blue counting sheet taken for persons situated in a house one counting thin-layer for everybody according to the requirements of the state on ten January 1st, 1891. These counting sheets then must by the count agent, the same in every house after family housekeepings be stapled together. I left the state national census in this regard quite untouched. Since I, however, wanted to put my national census exactly after families together family member had I to print separately red counting sheets and every count agent so the state ones, also a red counting thin-layer took for everybody to this one not belonging to families, or where always absent, but to Szeghegy responsible -- unless on and stapled it to the basic position or family in question.
When copying the count bills these red counting thin-layers became gerißen and numerirt out and the state then got his national census, such wished like him. The in question then could first be typed in due to the red counting thin-layers to her families, flat and Zurhilfenahme of all count agents weren't low work since what was the used red counting thin-layers over 400. It is, also understandable this in this Aperate so few servants happen only in such a way because all natives are just taken with her parents. It was highly arduously and time-consumingly the fair copy to type the houses in at least occasional just like such runs in reality.
House numbers is which mess into .Wann has to be learned from the count itself the the sky will us bring a new numbering of the houses only the gods know for the time being! As so many can manage herself but the municipality with this confused Warr in the numbering for years, I don't understand. However, Jedenfals indicates it the notary's office chambers a boundless carelessness and strolling egg to, which hasn't already long ago remedied to this evil to her own relief. I will apply, that I will design the new numbering and do the fair copy of the new Nummerirung on the paper after approval of the outline. Pettiness, and hurt office pride will, however, take my well-meant application to trap that in this count and the age details cashed up great and essential faults and mistakes happen I don't think. I endeavoured to use these yes where such happens in the count anyway I haven't spared any time and effort like the count attested myself to investigate and to repair the same in which my spread place and Familienkentnisse were of a great use for me, I connected national census, at the same time also an autentische photo of this parish, with the official one. For this reason I have personally vorgenommen.Es on the strange adjacent Hottern, on the spot the count these are himself responsible, these more loudly politically and church support all churches and school burdens here to Szeghegy and also in everyone take devoted cases the hierortige priest's office. It goes without saying anyway that this was discontinued on strange Hotter living Protestant in Szeghegy for the state national census. Protestant aren't taken here the few in Hegyes living in the place themselves.
It is and this shall be only a beginning. So I give lives and health, intend to take consideration and also to provide it at the next national census after 10th years also on apartment fortune occupation service and language conditions, U, s, W, for me God that the age details are provided more on schedule. If this shouldn't be granted for me, then now a successor who has desire and love of this thing and sacrifices to the good thing and science for some weeks of strained work finds himself vieleicht for me. A engaged and labor paid, will make this work hardly. Desire and love of the thing, iron industriousness and patience and finally the firm conviction this one with-special but a little useful to the posterity deliver, müßen be the motivating force, not let this one flag at this dry work.
And posterity per a use unite use and I don't know which one of mine work will have, am and stay with me also identically whether this one with! I have and uneigenütziges way and intention blos out of love of the thing for autistic science and to my municipality, I, of this gigantic job willing unterzogegen in the good, pure. Please only keep the same continue if need be! These become times and people come, which will know how to make use of also such work because I am not a real character !! certainly in this regard Particularly the past times speak and and behertzte language for the one the such understands a very instructive pay.
The work is and remains I so long live, my private property. After my death the same doesn't have any Werth for my family. It shall therefore change into the possession of the church or the municipality. The work as use and uselessly the destruction wants or will give or wants to keep it as a historical document whether the same then is her thing. This doesn't make me any headaches further.

We thank the many Sekitschern and everyone who so unselfishly supports us if we cannot mention everyone in this place either for the selfless support. Our special gratitude is for Mrs Angela Hefner who has always advised us very well and has supported us at the investigation of the Ansiedler particularly helpfully and energetically as well as with our friends and whose families in Serbia, Montenegro.
